About Joy M. Maxwell

Joy M. Maxwell’s journey into grant writing began with firsthand experience of the power of benevolence. Her passion for securing resources to support communities led her to pursue dual master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Health from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis.

With a background in direct service, Joy discovered her true calling in macro-level work. A pivotal moment came when she stepped into a grant-writing role by necessity, sparking a deep commitment to ensuring nonprofits had the funding needed to thrive. 

After gaining over 15 years of experience in a variety of roles and 5 years of expertise in full-cycle grant work, Joy founded Ark Advising in 2019.

Inspired by the biblical ark as a structure of protection and preservation, Ark Advising partners with mission-driven organizations to secure sustainable funding. With a specialized focus on grant work and a commitment to long-term collaboration, Joy and her team bring extensive nonprofit experience, deep industry knowledge, and a client-centered approach to every partnership.
